Our SOZO Bioimpedance Spectroscopy (BIS) device is an advanced, non-invasive body-analysis system that measures fluid status and tissue composition, including extracellular, intracellular and total body water. These measurements assist with the assessment, early detection and ongoing management of lymphoedema.

SOZO can detect medically meaningful fluid changes as small as 36 ml approximately 2.4 tablespoons in a limb. A measurement takes less than 30 seconds and provides immediate results during your consultation.

The device works by passing a harmless, low-level electrical signal through the body’s fluid across 256 different frequencies. The test is painless and cannot be felt.

Where possible, patients receive a baseline measurement before cancer treatment or surgery begins. They are then reassessed at regular intervals often every three months initially to identify changes in fluid levels that may indicate early or subclinical lymphoedema, before visible swelling develops.

Research from the PREVENT trial demonstrated the benefits of early detection followed by a short course of compression therapy. More than 92% of patients monitored using BIS who received early compression intervention did not progress to chronic lymphoedema requiring more intensive treatment.
